Kelly Martin has upped the bar with this series! I hope this series gets "picked up" for many more seasons! I became a Kelly Martin fan with her Heartless series. I gave her my heart and she's not let me down yet. I didn't think I could love another series as much, but I am totally sucked in to this awesome ghost story! The idea of a ghost hunting television series is absolutely brilliant! This series could be the Kinsey Malone or Stephanie Plum of ghost stories! These characters have so much depth to be explored. We pick up here in Book 2 right where Book 1 left off. Elise and Abel are ready to go back out on their 2nd hunt, primarily due to blackmail. Elise really wants to help Abel but trust and honesty are a HUGE factor here. Neither one can trust themselves completely so how are they to trust one another?
I wish we had a little more character development along with the relationship development. It seems as though Elise is regressing in this book. I will say, it could be due to the fact that her entire world is gone, her family, her school etc.
I was super scared reading about the ghosts and everything that comes into play! I still say, don't read alone.... or in the dark!

Continuing our journey with Elise and Abel we follow them on their second ghost hunt together. This one however will test the mental capabilities, especially Elises'. Its one spooky house and one scary ghost. The truth of everything is more haunting than they could have imagined.
I also want to touch down on the maybe romance blossoming between Elise and Abel. Elise definitely likes Abel, she feels herself falling for him. He can make her feel so calm even within her personal hell. But she feels he can't possibly feel the same way about her. He's just they're to find out what happened to his family. She doesn't want to get hurt. She may find out in the end it was for the best. But I have a feeling Abel cares very much for Elise.
I'm so excited for book 3!!
I gave Book 1 three and a half stars. I'm going to have to give this one three stars. Sorry.
The plot itself is a great premise. The idea that she has been forced to continue to ghost hunt because of blackmail. Enter a doppelganger, some seriously pissed off ghost/demon things that we don't know what they are yet. Add to this our girl still has a concussion which may or may not b the reason she is seeing things. Love the mystery and intrigue behind the idea.
Unfortunately, it all fell a little flat. It was already a shorter book to begin with, and at least 1/3 of the content should have been edited out due to redundancy sake. How many times is she going to remind us that she doesn't want to be the girl that gets all whiny and faints and needs a man? Twenty, thirty? How many times does she want to tell Abel that she has feelings for him, but is afraid of how he will react so she changes her mind? Fifty? Get on with it already, we get the point and all this talk is slowing a really good story down! She also REALLY likes the phrase "Yay for..." It is repeated at least 30 times throughout the book. Very annoying.
It is almost as if the MC has gone down in maturity and aged backward between the two books. This book feels rushed and reads like a rough draft. It's not that I hated the story, because it is a good story, it just fell a little flat. She needs to work with a content editor and a better proofreader, then she will have some really great novels on her hands.
Love this series so far!! Can't wait to read more and see where the author takes the story.

Wow what can I say, Kelly Martin's writing is like a fine wine it only gets better with age.
It's brilliantly written and keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
April is much too far away for the next book.
